RC Design 2 (Eurocode)
The next step after RC Design 1 (Eurocode): flat and post-tensioned slabs, walls, corbels and nibs, staircases, crack width and deflection by calculation, and slabs on grade, to EN 1992-1-1 with EN 1990 combinations, each with a STATIX concrete calculator on its Eurocode 2 route.
Lessons
Who it is for
- Students and graduate engineers who have done a first course in reinforced concrete to the Eurocodes.
- Engineers moving from beams and columns to whole floors and special members on Eurocode projects.
- Engineers who know the SA code: every lesson links its twin in RC Design 2.
Before this course
It builds on RC Design 1 (Eurocode) (bending, shear, span/d, columns, two-way slabs, footings and punching, detailing) and does not repeat it.
Which values the lessons use
EN 1992-1-1 leaves some values to each country’s national annex. The lessons follow the calculators’ Eurocode 2 route: EN 1990 equation 6.10 with the recommended factors of Table A1.2(B), the imposed loads of EN 1991-1-1, and the recommended values of EN 1992-1-1, except αcc, which is 0.85 for bending and axial load and 1.0 for shear (the PT slab page of lesson 2, the RC wall page of lesson 3, the corbel page of lesson 4 and the staircase page of lesson 5 use the recommended 1.0; the lessons say so). Each lesson says which values it uses, so you can compare them with your own country’s annex. The SA annex (SANS 51992-1-1) is a separate route on the calculators. The post-tensioned slab page adds the flat-slab rules of ACI 318-19 on its Eurocode 2 route; lesson 2 says which checks follow them. EN 1992-1-1 has no clause for slabs on grade: the slab on grade page of lesson 7 joins EN 1992-1-1 materials, punching and cover (with αct 1.0) to published yield-line and beam-on-springs theory, and lesson 7 says which checks follow which.
The STATIX tools it uses
- The flat slab and post-tensioned slab calculators.
- The RC wall, corbel and staircase calculators.
- The crack width and deflection and slab on grade calculators.
How each lesson works
- Learning outcomes and what you need before you start.
- Short theory with many sketches, with clause numbers to look up in your own copy of the code.
- Worked examples by hand, every number shown, checked against the STATIX calculators.
- The same problem in a STATIX calculator, on its Eurocode 2 route.
- Exercises with answers, a short self-check quiz and the lesson on one page.
