Steel Design 1 (Eurocode)

Structural steel design to EN 1993-1-1 and EN 1993-1-8, for students who work to the Eurocodes. The same seven lessons as Steel Design 1, each on the Eurocode 3 route of a STATIX steel calculator.

Lesson 7Column base platesThe bearing strength f_jd and the width c, pinned and moment bases, anchors to EN 1992-4, shear by friction and anchors.

Which values the lessons use

EN 1993-1-1 and EN 1993-1-8 leave some values to each country’s national annex. The lessons follow the calculators’ Eurocode 3 route, which uses the recommended values: the partial factors γ_M0 = 1.0, γ_M1 = 1.0 and γ_M2 = 1.25, the buckling curves of Table 6.2 and, for lateral-torsional buckling of rolled sections, the method of 6.3.2.3. Each lesson says which values it uses, so you can compare them with your own country’s annex.

Lessons 1 to 4: the steel member calculator (tension, compression, bending, lateral-torsional buckling and their interaction).
Lessons 5 and 6: the fin plate and end plate connection calculators.
Lesson 7: the base plate calculator.
