Free RC beam calculator to SANS 10100
Designs a reinforced concrete beam for bending, shear, torsion and deflection, from a simple span to eight continuous spans. Free, runs in your browser, and prints a calc sheet with clause references.
No install, no card. The result shows without an account; a free account opens every check with its clause, the calc sheet and the bending schedule for 3 designs a month (one calculator, 24 hours). Calculator packs, coming soon, remove the limit.
What the calculator checks.
Every check is shown with the working, the clause and a pass or fail.
- Simply supported, cantilever, fixed, propped and continuous beams up to eight spans, with shear force and bending moment diagrams
- Bending (SANS 10100 cl. 4.3.3.4): K against K′, lever arm, As,req and the bars that fit in one or more layers
- Shear (cl. 4.3.4): v against vc and vmax, with link size and spacing
- Deflection by span/depth ratio (cl. 4.3.6), minimum and maximum steel, bar spacing
- Crack width (BS 8110-2 eq. 3) and long-term deflection by the curvature method
- Rectangular, T, L, inverted T and L, and I sections; support reactions with an equilibrium check
- On the STATIX beam engine: anchorage of bars ending in a column, laps (cl. 4.11.6.6) and crack-control bar spacing (cl. 4.11.8.2)
- Torsion (cl. 4.3.5): equilibrium or compatibility torsion, with torsion links and longitudinal steel, including the flanges of T and L beams
- Bars you can edit on the drawing: drag, curtail or add a bar and the beam engine checks the edited bars again

Codes: SANS 10100-1, BS 8110, Eurocode 2 (EN 1992-1-1)

Short answers.
About this free calculator.
Is the RC beam calculator free?
Yes. It is free to use: enter your own values and every check shows on the page with its result.
Do I need an account?
No account is needed to use it: every check shows on the page with its result and clause, with a calc sheet summary. Without an account you see the result. A free STATIX account (email or Google, no card) opens every check with its clause, the full calc sheet to print or save as a PDF and the SANS 282 bending schedule for 3 designs a month (one calculator, open for 24 hours). Paid plans, coming soon, will make them unlimited.
Which code clauses does it use?
The calc sheet names the clause on every step: SANS 10100 cl. 4.3.3.4 for bending, cl. 4.3.4 for shear and cl. 4.3.6 for deflection, and BS 8110-2 eq. 3 for crack width. Choose BS 8110 or Eurocode 2 and the sheet follows that code.
