Lessons
Who it is for
- Students and graduate engineers after a first course in loads.
- Technologists who design houses, small buildings and roofs.
- Engineers who work mostly in concrete and steel.
Before this course
It uses the loads of Loads 1 (permanent and imposed loads, wind and the load take-down).
The STATIX tools it uses
- The timber beam calculator (EN 1995-1-1 or SANS 10163-1).
- The masonry wall calculator (SANS 10164-1 and -2, BS 5628-1 or EN 1996-1-1).
- The lintel calculator.
How each lesson works
- Learning outcomes and what you need before you start.
- Short theory with many sketches, with clause numbers to look up in your own copy of the code.
- Worked examples by hand, every number shown, checked against the STATIX calculators.
- The same problem in a STATIX calculator.
- Exercises with answers, a short self-check quiz and the lesson on one page.
Universities and colleges
Universities and colleges: one licence for the department; students sign in with their university email. Lecturers can use the lessons and the calculators in class and in tutorials.
Course material for learning. Check every value against the current codes and have every design checked by a registered professional engineer.
